In August, we showcased NCL’s history as we kick off our historic, once-in-a-lifetime celebration – a century of empowering mothers and daughters!
Now’s your turn to share a story and be part of NCL’s history.
As we reflect on a century of remarkable milestones, we’re proud of our accomplishments and nationwide impact. Each step forward has been a testament to our dedication and unity, driving us to new heights.
This month, we honor the incredible women who founded National Charity League and reflect on the remarkable achievements we’ve made over the past 100 years. Together, we have built a legacy of service, leadership, and community. As we look back on our rich history, let’s be inspired by how far we’ve come and set our sights on a future filled with even greater possibilities. Here’s to the next century of making a difference and empowering women everywhere!
Step back in time to when “Tea for Two” was the song of the day and cloche hats with white gloves were the height of fashion. It was then that a visionary group of women in Los Angeles, led by Gladys Bernice Wilkinson, founded The Charity League. They partnered with the American Red Cross, crafting layettes and delivering food baskets to those in need during the holidays. Today, we proudly continue their legacy of service and volunteerism, inspired by their compassion and commitment.
In the 1940s, National Charity League made history as the nation’s first mother-daughter charity! The incredible women of that era expanded the organization’s mission to include educational and cultural activities, organizing groups by grade level from 7th to 12th grade – just as we continue to do today!
Did you know we held our very first NCL Convention in the 1960s? This inaugural gathering marked the beginning of a tradition that has only grown stronger over the years. As we look back on this milestone, we eagerly anticipate coming together once again in April 2025 for our Centennial Celebration – 100 years of empowering mothers and daughters. We can’t wait to celebrate together!
From a single chapter in Los Angeles, we quickly expanded and took our first bold step beyond state lines in 1977 with Salt Lake City, Utah. Since then, our sisterhood has blossomed into an impressive network spanning coast to coast. Today, we continue to grow, serve, and make a lasting impact together, united in our mission with over 300 chapters!
